Ducks Find Themselves At #7 In Both Gridiron Polls; Beavers' Support Evaporates

 The Oregon Ducks, after beating Colorado on Saturday, find themselves at #7 in both the Associated Press (just like last week) and the USA Today/Coaches (up a spot from last week) college football polls released on Sunday (the last ones before Tuesday's first release of this year's College Football Playoff rankings).


After getting knocked off by California, the Oregon State Beavers' support in both polls evaporated.

Three hits by Carols Correa and three runs batted in by Martin Maldonado on Sunday enabled the Houston Astros to overcome an early 4-0 deficit and overpower the Atlanta Braves 9-5 in Sunday's fifth game of the World Series.

 After their Saturday victory over UCLA, the Oregon Ducks climbed three spots to #7 in the Associated Press college football poll released on Sunday.


The Ducks went up two spots in the USA Today/Coaches poll to #8.


The Oregon State Beavers, after topping Utah, regained support in both polls; in the AP rankings, the Beavers would be ranked tied for #31 with Arizona State.


In the Coaches poll, Oregon State would be ranked tied for #32 with Florida.

Rapids Clinch Playoff Berth By Continuing Timbers' Recent Woes

 At Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colorado:


Dominique Badji (45'+2) and Diego Rubio (63') each scored once as the Colorado Rapids locked up a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs on Saturday night by blanking the visiting Portland Timbers 2-0, stretching the visitors' losing streak to three games.


The Timbers will try once again to get back on the winning track as they host the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM Pacific Time (Timbers TV Network via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver/ESPN+).

Johnny Russell scored the game winner in the 79th minute as Sporting Kansas City locked up a playoff berth with a 2-1 road victory over the Seattle Sounders.

Sean Nealis scored the game winner at 87 minutes as the New York Red Bulls delivered a crippling blow to Columbus' playoff chances by upending the Crew 2-1 on the road.

Kacper Przybylko converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute for the lone goal of the match as the Philadelphia Union defeated visiting Nashville 1-0.

Goals in the second half from Deiber Caicedo (63'), Brian White (76'), and Cristian Dajome (PK-82') enabled the Vancouver Whitecaps to battle back from a two-goal deficit and knock off the Portland Timbers 3-2 on the road in Wednesday night Major League Soccer action.


Yimmi Chara (15') and Dairon Asprilla (42') each scored once for the Timbers, who were eliminated from Cascadia Cup contention.


Portland will try to snap their two-game skid as they visit the Colorado Rapids on Saturday at 6:00 PM Pacific Time (Timbers TV Network via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver/ESPN+).
