Felipe Mora's successful penalty kick in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time on Wednesday lifted the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 home draw with Club America in the opening game of a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal-round series.


Roger Martinez converted a penalty kick in the opening minute of first-half stoppage time for the seven-time continental club champions.


The series will conclude next Wednesday at 7:15 PM Pacific Time at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium (Fox Sports 1/TUDN).


In the meantime, the Timbers will visit FC Dallas for a Major League Soccer contest this coming Saturday (5:00 PM Pacific Time, Timbers TV Network via KPDX, Portland-Vancouver/ESPN+).

Wolves Condemn Blades To League Championshp

 At Wolverhampton, England:


Willian Jose scored the only goal of the match in the 60th minute on Saturday as Wolverhampton Wanderers moved closer to assuring themselves of another season in the English Premier League by defeating visiting Sheffield United 1-0.


The defeat assured the Blades of relegation back into the Football League Championship after two years in the top flight.

At Frisco, Texas:


FC Dallas and the visiting Colorado Rapids battled to a season-opening 0-0 deadlock.
