147th Preakness Stakes:  Epicenter Foiled Again As Early Voting Wins


At Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore:


Early Voting, with jockey Jose Ortiz aboard, won the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday.


It was Chad Brown who was the winning trainer.


Epicenter, runner-up in the Kentucky Derby, finished second again.


Creative Minister finished third.




NBA Playoffs:  Heat Hold Off Celtics For 2-1 East Finals Series Lead


At Boston:


Bam Adebayo scored 31 points, grabbed ten rebounds, and dished out six assists on Saturday as the Miami Heat reclaimed home-court advantage in the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals after their 109-103 road victory in game three against the Boston Celtics.


Jaylen Brown topped the C's with 40 points (to go with his nine rebounds) while Al Horford added 20 (to go with his 14 boards).




Stanley Cup Playoffs:  Avalanche Down Blues For 2-1 Series Lead


At St. Louis:


In the lone Saturday Stanley Cup Playoff contest, Artturi Lehkonen scored twice as the Colorado Avalanche took a two-games to one Western Conference semifinal series advantage after their 5-2 game-three road victory over the St. Louis Blues.


Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 of 31 shots for the victory.


Giants Fall At Home To Padres Again


At Oracle Park, San Francisco:


Joe Musgrove pitched seven shutout innings while Manny Machado hit a home run on Saturday as the San Diego Padres (26-14) held off the homestanding San Francisco Giants (22-17).




Liverpool Hold Off  Visiting Wolves; Still Denied EPL Crown


At Liverpool, England:


In the English Premier League season finale for both clubs on Sunday, Mohamed Salah scored the game winner at 84 minutes as Liverpool came back from an early deficit to overcome visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1.


Despite their victory, the Reds' chances of winning the EPL title died when Manchester City came from behind to knock off visiting Aston Villa 3-2.


Wolves, who finished the campaign in tenth place in the standings, will play in the top level next season for the fifth straight year--the first time this has happed since they played five years in the old first division (1977-82).

At Reggio nell'Emilia, Italy:


Oliver Giroud scored twice (17', 32') on Sunday as AC Milan clinched winning the Italian Serie A championship by dominating Sassuolo 3-0 on the road.


Road Win For Anderlecht


At Brugge, Belgium:


An own goal by Jack Hendry in the 87th minute carried RSC Anderlecht to a Sunday 1-1 Belgian First Division A Championship-Round draw with Club Brugge.


Andreas Skov Olsen scored for the hosts in the 39th minute.


Grasshoppers Stay Up Despite Road Beatdown


At Bern, Switzerland:


In Sunday's Swiss Super League season finale for both clubs, Christian Fassnacht (7'), Aka Wilfried Kanga (77'), and Joel Monteiro (89') each scored once as BSC Young Boys dominated visiting Grasshoppers 3-0 on the road.


Despite the defeat, the Hoppers still assured themselves (due to superior goal differential vis a viv FC Lucerne) of staying up in the top flight of Swiss soccer for another season and avoided the relegation playoffs.


Scoreless Road Draw Closes Out Parakeets' Season


At Granada, Spain:


The Spanish Primera Division season finale between Granada and visiting Espanyol finished in a 0-0 stalemate on Sunday.
