Timbers Make Mince Meat Of SKC At Home


At Providence Park, Portland, Oregon:


Sebastian Blanco (46', 52') and Nathan Fogaca (56', 69') each scored twice on Saturday night as the Portland Timbers destroyed visiting Sporting Kansas City 7-2 in Major League Soccer action.


The seven goals set a new Timbers single-season franchise record.


Each team had a player ejected for picking up a second yellow card.


The victory ended a five-match winless streak across all competitions.

Quarterback De'Andre ran two touchdowns to help the New Jersey Generals (4-1) held off the New Orleans Breakers (3-2) 27-17 in Saturday United States Football League action.

Dakota Hudson pitched five solid innings and the bullpen did the rest as the St. Louis Cardinals (18-15) snapped the San Francisco Giants' (20-13) six-game winning streak with a 4-0 home victory on Saturday.

Stanley Cup Playoffs:  Canes, Lightning, Oilers Advance After Game-Seven Victories


The Stanley Cup Playoffs' opening round continued on Saturday with three games.


EASTERN CONFERENCE:


At Raleigh, North Carolina:


Max Domi scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the visiting Boston Bruins 3-2 in game seven and won their conference quarterfinal series four games to three.


The Hurricanes will face the winner of the Pittsburgh Penguins-New York Rangers (tied at three games apiece) in a conference semifinal series.


At Toronto:


Nick Paul scored twice as the Tampa Bay Lightning knocked off the homestanding Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 to win their series four games to three.


The Lightning will face their cross-state rivals, the Florida Panthers in a conference semifinal series, in which the Panthers will open up with home-ice advantage.


Andrei Vasilevskiy saved 31 of 32 shots to preserve the victory while the Leafs have still not won a playoff series since 2004.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:


At Edmonton, Alberta:


A goal and an assist from Connor McDavid plus a shutout performance from Mike Smith (29 saves) lifted the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-0 game-seven home victory over the Los Angeles Kings and a trip to a conference semifinal series against the Dallas-Calgary winner (that series deadlocked at three games apiece).


Wolves Gain Home Draw With Relegated Canaries


At Wolverhampton, England:


Rayan Ait Nouri's 55th-minute equalizer lifted Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-1 Sunday English Premier League home draw with Norwich City.


Teemu Pukki scored for the already-relegated Canaries in the 37th minutes.

Wissam Ben Yedder produced a natural hat trick (PK-44', 51', 54') as AS Monaco assured themselves of no less than a top-three French Ligue 1 finish with their 4-2 home victory on Saturday over Brest.
