 Hank Aaron, the baseball Hall of Famer who broke Babe Ruth's career home run record with his 715th round-tripper in one of his many highlights, passed away on Friday at age 86.


Mr. Aaron, who went on to hit 755 homers in a 23-year career with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers, hit .305, collected 3,771 hits, scored 2,174 runs, and stole 240 bases.


The National League's 1957 Most Valuable Player, who helped lead the Milwaukee Braves to that year's World Series championship, also won three Golden Gloves and two National League batting titles.


It was on April 8, 1974, at Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium, that Hammerin' Hank broke the Bambino's record with his 715th home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, against pitch Al Dowling.

"Cry! Cry! Cry!" and "Hey, Porter"--Johnny Cash (Sun, 1955)


Here are both sides of Johnny Cash's first single at Sun Records on Sun #221, opening with "Cry! Cry! Cry!" then "Hey, Porter!"

Johnny composed both these songs himself and is backed by the Tennessee Two, comprising of guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant.

Recorded at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, with the former cut perhaps in May of 1955 and the latter recorded on March 22 of that same year.

Released on Sun #221 on June 21, 1955.

The Oregon Ducks, who fell to Iowa State in the recent Fiesta Bowl, did manage to get support in both the final Associated Press (they would be ranked #29) and USA Today/Amway Coaches (#27) college football polls that were released on Tuesday.


For the record, newly crowned champs Alabama were unanimously voted #1 in both polls.
