FIFA World Cup: Team USA, England, Netherlands, Senegal Advance To Knockout Stage

 The Third and final cycle of group-stage games in the FIFA World Cup opened on Tuesday in Qatar.


GROUP A:


At Khalifa International Stadium, Al Rayyan:


Kalidou Koulibaly scored the game winner in the 70th minute as Senegal defeated Ecuador 2-1 to advance to the knockout stage.


At Bayt Stadium, Al Khor:


Cody Gakpo (26') and Frenkie de Jong (49') each scored once as the Netherlands blanked hosts Qatar 2-0.


Final Group A Standings:


1. Netherlands (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 7)A

2. Senegal (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 6)

3. Ecuador (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 4)

4. Qatar (GP: 3; GD: -6; PTS: 0)


The Netherlands and Senegal advanced to the knockout stage.




GROUP B:


At Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan:


Marcus Rashford scored twice (50', 68') as England dominated Wales 3-0 and clinched top spot in Group B and a berth in the Round of 16.


At Al Thumama Stadium, Doha:


Christian Pulisic scored the lone goal of the match in the 38th minute as the United States defeated Iran 1-0 and joined the Three Lions in advancing to the knockout stage.


Final Group B Standings:


1. England (GP: 3; GD: +7; PTS: 7)

2. United States (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 5)

3. Iran (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 3)

4. Wales (GP: 3; GD: -5; PTS: 1)


England and the United States advanced to the knockout stage.
