MLS: Lions, Cincy, RSL, Loons Clinch Playoff Spots On Decision Day; Crew, Timbers, Whitecaps Eliminated

 Major League Soccer's 27th regular season concluded on Sunday with fourteen Decision Day games.


At Atlanta:


Heber Araujo dos Santos scored the winning goal in the 60th minute as New York City defeated hosts Atlanta United 2-1.


At Bridgeview, Illinois:


Dylan Borrero's goal in the 88th minute lifted the New England Revolution to a 1-1 road draw with the Chicago Fire.


Alex Monis scored for the Fire in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to preserve a home point.


At Washington:


Brenner Souza da Silva delivered a hat trick (8', 24', 37') as FC Cincinnati secured their first-ever appearance after overpowering hosts DC United 5-2.


At Fort Lauderdale, Florida:


In a battle of playoff-round clubs, goals in the first ten minutes by Djordje Mihailovic (5') and Lassi Lappalainen (8') proved enough for Montreal as the visitors held off Inter Miami 3-1.


At Harrison, New Jersey:


Elias Alves de Paula scored twice (8', 55') as the New York Red Bulls blanked visiting Charlotte 2-0.


At Orlando, Florida:


Facundo Torres converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute for the winning goal as Orlando City locked down a playoff berth after overtaking the visiting Columbus Crew 2-1, eliminating the guests from the playoffs.


The Crew parted ways with head coach Caleb Porter on Monday.


At Chester, Pennsylvania:


A Daniel Gazdag hat trick (4', PK-60', 63') carried the Philadelphia Union to the Eastern Conference title (and a first-round playoff bye as well as a place in next year's CONCACAF Champions League) as they demolished visiting Toronto 4-0.


At Austin, Texas:


Diego Rubio's equalizer at the death (90'+3) carried the Colorado Rapids to a 1-1 road draw with playoff-bound Austin.


Sebastian Driussi scored for the hosts at 81 minutes.


At Frisco, Texas:


Sebastian Lleget (33') and Paul Arriola (65') each delivered a goal as FC Dallas prepared for the playoffs by knocking off visiting Sporting Kansas City 2-1.


At Houston:


Ricard Puig (31'), Javier Chicharito Hernandez (32'), and Dejan Joveljic (69') each scored once as the Los Angeles Galaxy secured a home playoff date after their 3-1 road win over the Houston Dynamo.


At Los Angeles:


Teal Bunbury scored the lone goal of the match in the 53rd minute as Nashville knocked off the Los Angeles Football Club 1-0 on the road as both clubs prepared for the playoffs with LAFC having secured the Supporters Shield and a first-round bye.


At Saint Paul, Minnesota:


Franco Fragapane (17') and Jonathan Gonzalez (77') each scored once as Minnesota United blanked visiting Vancouver 2-0 to secure a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs.


With the defeat, the Whitecaps will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight year.


At Sandy, Utah:


Jefferson Savarino (19'), Rubio Rubin (48'), and Bode Hidalgo (82') each scored once as Real Salt Lake overpowered the visiting Portland Timbers 3-1 to secure a playoff berth while the Timbers will miss out on postseason play for the first time in six years.


At Seattle:


Jeremy Ebobisse (4') and Cade Cowell (75') each scored once as the San Jose Earthquakes gained a season-closing 2-2 road draw with the Seattle Sounders.


Nicolas Lodeiro (1', 49') scored both of the Sounders' goals.
