Timbers Fall To LAFC In US Open Cup Play
At Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles:
Cristian Arango (32') and Mamadou Fall (54') each scored once on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Football Club blanked the visiting Portland Timbers 2-0 in US Open Cup Round of 32 play.
It marked the fourth time in five games in all competitions that the Timbers were left off the scoreboard.
Giants Dominate Rockies For Fourth Straight Victory
At Oracle Park, San Francisco:
Alex Wood pitched into the sixth inning without giving up an earned run while Brandon Belt delivered a run-scoring single on Tuesday as the San Francisco Giants (18-12) racked up their fourth straight win, 9-2 over the visiting Colorado Rapids (16-14).
Stanley Cup Playoffs: Canes, Leafs, Blues, Kings Take 3-2 Series Leads
The Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Tuesday with four games.
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
At Raleigh, North Carolina:
Antii Raanta saved 34 of 35 while Seth Jarvis scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the visiting Boston Bruins 5-1 in game five of their conference quarterfinal series, which the Canes now lead three games to two.
Carolina can lock up the series with a game-six victory in Boston on Thursday.
At Toronto:
Auston Matthews scored the go-ahead goal with 6:06 remaining in regulation as the Toronto Maple Leafs held off the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in game five of their opening-round series, which the Leafs now lead three games to two.
Toronto can knock out the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions (and pick up their first playoff series victory since 2006) with a game-six win in Tampa on Thursday.
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
At Saint Paul, Minnesota:
Vladimir Tarasanko's hat trick carried the St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 road win over the Minnesota Wild 5-2 in game five of their opening-round series.
The Blues, up three games to two, can lock up the series on Thursday back home in St. Louis with a game-six victory.
At Los Angeles:
Adrian Kempe scored the winning goal 72 seconds into overtime as the Los Angeles Kings upended the homestanding Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in game five of their series, which the Kings now lead three games to two.
Los Angeles can lock up the series at home with a victory on Thursday in game six.
NBA Playoffs: Heat, Suns Take 3-2 Series Leads
The NBA Playoffs' quarterfinal round continued on Tuesday with two games.
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
At Miami:
Jimmy Butler scored scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out a half-dozen assists as the Miami Heat, with seven players (including all five starters) scoring in double figures, manhandled the visiting Philadelphia 76ers 120-85 in game five of their conference semifinal series.
The Heat, now up three games to two, can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals with a game-six triumph in Philadelphia on Thursday.
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
At Phoenix:
Devin Booker scored 28 points while Deandre Ayton added 20 (to go with his nine rebounds) as the Phoenix Suns smothered the visiting Dallas Mavericks 110-80 in the fifth game of their series, which the Suns now lead three games to two.
Luca Doncic scored 28 points (and pulled in 11 boards) while Jalen Brunson added 21 to top the Mavs.
Phoenix can close out the series on Thursday in Dallas with a game-six victory.
