FRANKFURT EDGE 'GERS IN PK SHOOTOUT, WIN EUROPA LEAGUE CROWN

In Wednesday's Europa League Final, after a 90-minute 1-1 draw, followed by 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Christopher Lenz, Ajdin Hrustic, Daichi Kamada, Filip Kostic, and Rafael Borre (who had scored the game equalizer in the 69th minute of regulation time) each converted a spot kick as Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Rangers 5-4 in the penalty-kick shootout to claim their first piece of European silverware since winning the 1980 UEFA Cup title (the former name of what is now the Europa League).
The German club will face the winner of the May 28 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the upcoming UEFA Super Cup game in Helsinki, Finland on August 10 and will compete in the group stage of next season's Champions League.
Timbers Fall To Quakes On Road

Jamiro Montero scored twice (44', 80') and Jackson Yueill once (31') as the San Jose Earthquakes knocked off the visiting Portland Timbers 3-2 in Wednesday Major League Soccer action.
Bill Tuiloma scored both of the Timbers' goals in the 18th and 56th minutes.
Rockies Hold Off Giants To Avoid Sweep

A two-run homer from C.J. Cron during a three-run eighth inning enabled the Colorado Rockies (18-19) to snap a 12-game losing streak against the visiting San Francisco Giants (22-15) 5-3 on Wednesday.
NBA Playoffs: Warriors Overpower Mavs In West Finals Opener
At San Francisco:
In Wednesday's opening game of the NBA's Western Conference Finals, Stephen Curry scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Golden State Warriors, with seven players (including all five starters) dominated the visiting Dallas Mavericks 112-87.
Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole (off the bench) each contributed 19 points to the Warriors' coffers.
Luka Doncic paced the Mavericks with 20 points (to go with his seven boards).
Stanley Cup Playoffs: Canes, Flames Take Series Openers
The quarterfinal round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continued on Wednesday with two games.

In the first postseason battle of Alberta since 1991, Matthew Tkachuk produced a hat trick while Blake Coleman scored twice as the Calgary Flames opened their series with the Edmonton Oilers with a 9-6 home victory.
Zach Hyman scored twice for the Oilers.
