T2 Take Shootout From Whitecaps 2 For Road Victory


At Vancouver, British Columbia:


In Sunday play from MLS Next Pro, after a regulation 2-2 draw, Portland Timbers 2 took the penalty-kick shootout from hosts Vancouver Whitecaps 2 for their first win of the season.


T2's regulation-time goals came from Gogo Peters (44') and Blake Bodily (84') while both of  Vancouver's were scored by Owen Antoniuk (PK-76', 90'+5).


Gerardo Duran, Selmir Miscic, Blake Bodily, and Justin Rasmussen converted their spot kicks in the shootout, which came out 4-1 in Portland's favor.


UEFA Champions League:  Galacticos, Yellow Sub Advance To Semifinals


Two games were played in the quarterfinal round of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday:


At Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid:


Rodrygo Silva De Goes (80') and Karim Benzema (96') scored once apiece as Real Madrid, despite dropping game two of their series at home 3-2 in overtime, still won their series with defending European and World club champions Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate.


At Allianz Stadium, Munich:


Samuel Chukwuenze scored the series winner in the 88th which enabled Villarreal to gain a 1-1 game-two road draw with Bayern Munich and win their series with the German powerhouse 2-1 on aggregate.




CONCACAF Champions League:  Pumas Advance To Final


At Axteca Stadium, Mexico:


A 0-0 game-two road draw on Tuesday with Cruz Azul enabled fellow Mexican (and in fact, fellow Mexico City club) Pumas to win their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal-round series 2-1 on aggregate.


Pumas will face the Seattle-New York City series winner.  The Sounders lead their series 3-1 on aggregate.


NBA Playoffs: Nets, Wolves Take Games


The preliminary round of the National Basketball Association Playoffs opened with two games on Tuesday:


EASTERN CONFERENCE:


At Brooklyn, New York:


Kyrie Irving scored 34 points and dished out 12 assists as the Brooklyn Nets outlasted the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers 115-108 to get a shot at the Boston Celtics in the conference quarterfinals.


Kevin Durant added 25 points (while dishing out 11 assists) to the Nets' coffers.


Darius Garland topped the Cavs with 34 points.


WESTERN CONFERENCE:


At Minneapolis:


Anthony Edwards and D'Angelo Russell scored 30 and 29 points respectively as the Minnesota Timberwolves held off the visiting Los Angeles Clippers 109-104.


Paul George topped the Clippers with 34 points.


The Memphis Grizzlies await the Wolves in an upcoming conference quarterfinal series.


Giants Make Mince Meat Of Padres


At Oracle Park, San Francisco:


Brandon Belt belted a two-run homer as part of a six-run first inning on Tuesday as the San Francisco Giants (3-2) destroyed the visiting San Diego Padres (4-3) 13-2.
