A 0-0 game-two road stalemate with ten-man Atletico Madrid was good enough for Manchester City as the Citizens won their series with the Mattress Makers 1-0 on aggregate.
At Anfield, Liverpool, England:
Roberto Firmino scored twice (55', 65') as Liverpool gained a game-two 3-3 home draw with SL Benfica and knocked out the Portuguese club 6-4 on aggregate.
CONCACAF Champions League: Sounders Knock Out NYC FC For Berth In Final Against Pumas
At Red Bull Arena, Harrison, New Jersey:
Raul Ruidiaz scored at the 28th minute as the Seattle Sounders gained a 1-1 game-two road draw and took out New York City 4-2 on aggregate on Wednesday to advance to the two-game home-and-way final of the CONCACAF Champions League in which they will face Mexico's Pumas.
NBA Playoffs: Hawks, Pelicans One Step Away From Respective Conference Quarterfinals; Hornets, Spurs Eliminated
The preliminary round of the NBA Playoffs continued on Wednesday with two games.
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
At Atlanta:
Trae Young scored 23 points (and dished out eleven assists) while DeAndre Hunter added 22 as the Atlanta Hawks, with six players---including all five starters---scoring in double figures, stepped on the visiting Charlotte Hornets 132-103.
Lamelo Ball scored 26 points while Terry Rozier added 21 to pace the Hornets.
The Hawks will next take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday for the right to face top-seeded Miami in the conference quarterfinals.
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
At New Orleans:
C.J. McCallum scored 32 points while Brandon Ingram added 27 and Jonas Valanciunas 22 as the New Orleans Pelicans held off the visiting San Antonio Spurs 113-103 to get a chance to visit the Los Angeles Clippers for a Friday game that will determine who will face the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in a Western Conference quarterfinal series.
Devil Vassel paced the Spurs with 23 points.
Devils Prove Too Much For Coyotes
At Glendale, Arizona:
The New Jersey Devils on Tuesday overpowered the Arizona Coyotes 6-2 on the road. Yegor Sharangovich scored twice and assisted once for New Jersey.
Giants Defeat Padres Again
At Oracle Park, San Francisco:
Logan Webb pitched eight innings of four-hit ball while Luke Williams' double scored two big runs on Wednesday as the San Francisco Giants (4-2) defeated the visiting San Diego Padres (4-3) 2-1.
