Pelicans Blow Out Blazers As Portland's Woes Continue


At New Orleans:


C.J.McCallum scored 23 points on Thursday as the New Orleans Pelicans (36-44) all but locked up hosting a game in the playoffs' preliminary round after their 127-94 beatdown of the visiting Portland Trail Blazers (27-53), who have now dropped nine straight games and 19 of 21 since the All-Star Break.


Six Pelicans scored in double figures.


Drew Eubanks paced the Blazers with 20 points


More Woe For Devils


At Newark, New Jersey:


Seven  players each scored once on Thursday as the Montreal Canadiens outslugged the homestanding New Jersey Devils 7-4 in NHL action.


The Devils have now dropped five straight games and 10 of their last 12 starts.


Europa and Europa Confernce Leagues Open Up Respective Quarterfinal Rounds


The quarterfinal round of both the Europa League and Europa Conference League opened up with four games each on Thursday.


Wolves Fall To Magpies On Road


At Newcastle upon Tyne, England:


Chris Wood converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute for the lone goal of the lone Friday English Premier League contest as Newcastle United stymied visiting Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0.


The Magpies all but assured themselves of avoiding relegation while Wolves' hopes of reaching next season's UEFA Champions League may have been put to bed.
