Sunday Roundup

 SPORTS:

In Saturday action from Italy's Serie A, Pierre Kalulu's goal in the 19th minute lifted AC Milan to a 1-0 home victory over Empoli---and into the top of the league standings.

Here in the States, Bill Tuiloma used his noggin in the 62nd minute to carry the Portland Timbers to a 1-0 home victory over Austin FC as Portland picked up their first Major League Soccer victory of the season on Saturday, stifling a club that had outscored the opponents 10-1 in their previous two games.

The Portland Trail Blazers (26-40) snapped their six-game NBA losing streak on Saturday by outlasting the Washington Wizards (29-37) 127-118 at home as all five starters scored in double figures.

Josh Hart scored a career-high 44 points (while grabbing eight rebounds) to top the Blazers while Trendon Watford added 27 and Drew Eubanks added 20 to help the Portland cause.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope topped the Wizards with 26 points while Kyle Kuzma added 22.

In Saturday NHL action, Nico Daws saved 33 of 34 shots as the New Jersey Devils defeated the visiting Anaheim Ducks 2-1 in a game decided in a shootout.

Mr. Daws stopped two Ducks shots during the shootout to preserve the victory.  Tomas Tatar (who scored in regulation) and Jesper Bratt both scored in the shootout.

In Sunday play in the English Premier League, Conor Coady's goal in the 49th minute lifted Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-0 road victory over relegation-threatened Everton.

With the Sunday victory, Wolves now find themselves in seventh place in the league standings.
