CONCACAF Gold Cup: Team USA Tops Canada For Group B Crown, El Tri Lock Up Berth In Quarterfinals; Soca Warriors Eliminated

 The final cycle of group-stage play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup commenced on Sunday with four games.


GROUP A:


At the Cotton Bowl, Dallas:


Luis Alfonso Rodriguez scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute as Mexico defeated El Salvador 1-0 to lock up top spot in Group A as both squads will play in the quarterfinal round.


At Toyota Stadium, Frisco, Texas:


Gerardo Gordillo's equalizer in the 77th minute carried Guatemala to a 1-1 draw with Trinidad and Tobago, a draw that ended the Soca Warriors' tournament adventure.


Reon Moore scored for T&T in the 12th minute.


Final Group A Standings:


1. Mexico (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 7)

2. El Salvador (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 6)

3. Trinidad and Tobago (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 2)

4. Guatemala (GP: 3; GD: -5; PTS: 1)


Mexico and El Salvador advanced to the quarterfinal round.




GROUP B:


At Toyota Stadium, Frisco, Texas:


With both teams already eliminated, Ricardo Ade's game winner at 61 minutes carried Haiti past Martinique 2-1.


At Children's Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kansas:


Shaq Moore goal 20 seconds into the match proved to be enough as the United States, battling through injuries, held off Canada 1-0 to clinch top spot in Group B as both teams had already assured themselves of berths in the quarterfinal round.


That goal from Mr. Moore was the fastest in US Men's National Team history.


Final Group B Standings:


1. United States (GP: 3; GD: +7; PTS: 9)

2. Canada (GP: 3; GD: +5; PTS: 6)

3. Haiti (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 3)

4. Martinique (GP: 3; GD: -9; PTS: 0)


The United States and Canada advanced to the quarterfinal round.
