After a 1-1 deadlock through regulation, followed by 30 minutes of scoreless overtime on Wednesday, Gerard Moreno (who scored in the 29th minute of regulation), Dani Raba, Paco Alcacer, Alberto Moreno, Daniel Parejo, Moi Gomez, Raul Albiol, Francis Coquelin, Mario Gaspar, Pau Torres, and goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli each converted a spot kick as Villarreal won the penalty-kick shootout against Manchester United 11-10 and won their first Europa League title----and their first UEFA Champions League berth since 2011-12.
The aforementioned Mr. Rulli preserved the victory for the Yellow Submarine by saving a spot kick by his Red Devils' counterpart, David De Gea.
Edinson Cavani scored for Manchester United in the 55th minute of regulation.
