NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament: Texas Southern, Drake, Norfolk State, UCLA (In OT) Advance To Round of 64

 The 2021 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament commenced on Thursday with the four games making up the First Four.


All games in this year's tournament are being contested in Indiana.


EAST REGIONAL:


At Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Bloomington:


John Walker, III scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Texas Southern Tigers (17-8) defeated the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers (12-11) 60-52 for their tenth successive victory.


Next up for the SWAC champions, a Saturday date with Michigan, the East Region's top seed.


At Mackey Arena, West Lafeyette:


Jaime Jaquez, Jr. scored 27 points while Johnny Juzang added 23 points as the UCLA Bruins (18-9) held off the Michigan State Spartans (15-13) 86-80 in ovetime.


The Bruins will be the East Regional's #11 seed as they face #6-seeded BYU on Saturday.



WEST REGIONAL:


At Mackey Arena, West Lafayette:


Joseph Yesufu scored 22 points as the Drake Bulldogs (26-4) picked up their first NCAA Tourney victory in 50 years by winning a tight one against the Wichita State Shockers (16-6) 53-52.


Morris Udeze topped WSU with 22 points.


The eleventh-seeded Bulldogs will next face #6-seeded Southern California on Saturday.


At Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Bloomington:


Jalen Hawkins scored 24 points off the bench while Devante Carter sank a pair of free throws with 8.6 seconds remaining as the Norfolk State Spartans (17-7) defeated the Appalachian State Mountaineers (17-12) 54-53.


Reward for the Spartans:  A Saturday encounter with top overall seed Gonzaga.
