After regulation time in Sunday's FIFA World Cup Final, Argentina (with goals from Lionel Messi [PK-23'] and Angel Di Maria [36']) and defending champions France (with goals from Kylian Mbappe [PK-80', 81']) found themselves deadlocked at 2-2.
During overtime, Mr. Messi's goal at 108 minutes put the Argentinians found themselves again, this time at 3-2, only to see Mr. Mbappe, again, this time with a successful penalty kick in the 118th minute, tie things up again for Les Bleus. Overtime ended with the score deadlocked at 3-3.
During the penalty-kick shootout, Leo the Lion, Paulo Dybala, Leandro Parades, and Gonzalo Montiel, converted their spot kicks as Argentina won their third World Cup, their first since 1986, winning the shootout 4-2.
