FIFA World Cup: South Korea and Switzerland Join Portugal, Brazil In Knockout Stage

 Group-stage play in the FIFA World Cup concluded on Friday in Qatar.


GROUP G:


At Stadium 974, Doha:


Remo Freuler scored the game winner in the 48th minute as Switzerland defeated Serbia 3-2 and gained a berth in the knockout stage.


At Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail:


Vincent Aboubakar scored the game's only goal in second-half stoppage time (90'+2) as Cameroon knocked off Brazil 1-0 but still failed to advance to the knockout stage.


Final Group G Standings:


1. Brazil (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 6)

2. Switzerland (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 6)

3. Cameroon (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)

At Janoub Stadium, Al Wakrah:


Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored twice (26', 32') as Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 but still failed to advanced to the knockout stage.


At Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan:


Hwang Hee-chan scored the winning goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time as South Korea defeated Portugal 2-1 and advanced to the knockout stage.


Final Group H Standings:


1. Portugal (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 6)

2. South Korea (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)

3. Uruguay (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)

4. Ghana (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 3)


Portugal and South Korea (who scored more goals than Uruguay, 4-2) advanced to the knockout stage.
