National League Wild-Card Series: Phillies Stun Cardinals With Epic 9th-Inning Comeback; Padres Too Much For Mets In Opener

Both National League wild-card series (best-of-three, with the higher-seeded team hosting all games) opened on Friday.


At Busch Stadium, St. Louis:


After trailing 2-0 after eight innings, the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for six runs in the ninth inning and upended the homestanding St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 in their series opener.


At Citi Field, Flushing New York:


Josh Bell, Manny Machado, Trent Grisham, and Junckson Profar each belted a home run as the San Diego Padres opened their series with the New York Mets with a 7-1 beatdown.
