A touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter from Alex McGough (subbing for an injured J'Mar Smith) to Victor Bolden, Jr. carried the Birmingham Stallions to a 33-30 victory over the Philadelphia Stars in Sunday's United States Football League Championship Game.
Linebacker Scooby Wright's interception return for a touchdown with under three minutes remaining helped sealed the Stallions' victory.
Timbers Battle Back From Two Goals Down To Gain Road Draw In Humid Nashville
At GEODIS Park, Nashville, Tennessee:
Dairon Asprilla (PK-64') and Jaroslaw Niezgoda (69') each scored once on Sunday as the Portland Timbers battled back from a two-goal deficit to gain a 2-2 Major League Soccer road draw with Nashville.
Sean Davis (19') and Hany Mukhtar (57') each scored once for the hosts.
Pale Hose Club Giants To Complete Sweep
At Oracle Park, San Francisco:
Lucas Giolito gave up but three hits in six innings while Selby Zavala and Gavin Sheets each drove in three runs as the Chicago White Sox (38-39) completed a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants (40-37) 13-4 on the road on Sunday.
The ChiSox are 7-1 all-time at Oracle Park.
Team USA Clobber Dominican Republic For CONCACAF U-20 Crown
At Metropolitan Olympic Stadium, San Pedro Sula, Honduras:
Paxten Aaronson scored twice (37', 56') on Sunday as the United States destroyed the Dominican Republic 6-0 to win their third successive CONCACAF Under-20 men's tournament championship.
During the course of the knockout stage, the Americans gained qualification to next year's FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris (their first since 2008).
Monday Wrap-Up:
MadBum Sends Giants To Fifth Straight Defeat
At Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona:
Madison Bumgarner picked up the victory over his former team on Independence Day as the Arizona Diamondbacks (36-44) upended the visiting San Francisco Giants (40-38) 8-3, handing their guests their fifth straight setback and 11th in their last 14 games.
Buddy Kennedy drove in a pair of runs while Cooper Hummel scored for the Snakes.
