NBA Playoffs:  Celtics Hold Off Heat, Win East Title; Get Warriors In Finals


At Miami:


Jayson Tatum scored 26 points and grabbed ten rebounds on Sunday as the Boston Celtics held on for a 100-96 game-seven road victory over the Miami Heat to capture the Eastern Conference title.


Marcus Smart (nine boards) and Jaylen Brown each added 24 points to the C's coffers.


Jimmy Butler led the Heat with 35 points (to go with his nine rebounds) while Bam Adebayo added 25 (to go with his 11 boards).


The Celtics will open their first NBA Finals since 2010 (last winning it in 2008) against the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco on Thursday.


It will be the first post-season meeting between the clubs since Bill Russell and the Celtics defeated Wilt Chamberlain and the then-San Francisco Warriors in 1964 in five games.


That series included fourteen future Basketball Hall of Famers.


Giants Upend Phillies In 10 Innings On Road


At Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia:


Curt Casali hit a two-run homer in the tenth inning on Memorial Day as the San Francisco Giants (26-21) handed the homestanding Philadelphia Phillies (21-28) their 11th defeat in their last 15 starts 5-4.


Stanley Cup Playoffs:  Rangers Dominate Canes In Raleigh, Advance To Eastern Conference Final


At Raleigh, North Carolina:


Chris Kreider scored twice while Igor Shesterkin saved 37 of 39 shots on Monday as the New York Rangers dominated the hosts Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 on the road in game seven of their Eastern Conference semifinal series as the Stanley Cup Playoffs' quarterfinal round concluded.


The Rangers, who picked up the only road victory for either club in the series that they won four games to three, will host the opening contest in the Eastern Conference Final against the two-time defending cup champions Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.
