UEFA Champions League: Third Qualifying Round Opens With Series-Opening Wins For Malmo (at 'Gers Expense), Monaco, PSV, Shakhtar

 The third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying opened on Tuesday with seven games.


Champions Path:


At Malmo, Sweden:


Soren Rieks (47') and Veljko Bimancevic (49') each scored a goal two minutes apart in the early minutes of the second half as Malmo FF topped visiting Rangers 2-1 in their series-opening match. 


At Cluj-Napoca, Romania:


Vincent Sierro's equalizer at the death (90'+3) carried BSC Young Boys to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with CFR Cluj.


Cristian Manea scored in the fourth minute for the Railwaymen.


At Piraeus, Greece:


Aguibou Camera's equalizer in the 87th minute lifted Olympiacos to a series-opening 1-1 home draw with Ludogorets Razgrad.


Kiril Despovod scored in the 50th minute for the Bulgarian club.


At Belgrade, Serbia:


Lois Diony's goal late in the first half (45'+1) lifted Red Star Belgrade to a 1-1 game-one home deadlock with FC Sheriff.


Frank Castaneda scored at 33 minutes for the Moldovan club.




League Path:


At Prague, Czech Republic:


Aurelien Tchouameni (37') and Kevin Volland (59') each scored once as AS Monaco blanked Sparta Prague 2-0 on the road in their series-opening contest.


At Eindhoven, Netherlands:


Noni Madueke (19'), Mario Gotze (29'), and Cody Gakpo (32') each scored a goal in the first half as PSV Eindhoven opened their series with FC Midtjyllan by dominating the Danish club 3-0 at home.


At Genk, Belgium:


Alan Patrick scored the winning goal in the 81st minute as Shakhtar Donetsk upended KRC Genk 2-1 on the road in their series opener.
