At Wembley Stadium, London:
After a 1-1 draw through regulation, followed by thirty minutes of scoreless overtime, Domenico Berardi, Leonardo Bonucci (who had scored in the 67th minute to force overtime), and Federico Bernardeschi converted their spot kicks as Italy outlasted hosts England 3-2 in the penalty-kick shootout for their first European Championship on Sunday since 1968 (and their first major trophy since the 2006 World Cup).
Azzurri goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made two key saves in the shootout, saving the Three Lions' kicks from Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka to preserve the victory.
