CONCACAF Champions League: Ten-Man Five Stripes Take Opener On Road; Timbers Gain 2-2 Draw In Honduras; Cruz Azul And Arcahaie Battle To Scoreless Draw In Santo Domingo

 The opening round of the CONCACAF Champions League commenced on Tuesday with three games.


At San Pedro Sula, Honduras:


Brayan Castillo (39') and Marlon Ramirez (68') each scored once as CD Marathon salvaged a series-opening 2-2 deadlock with the visiting Portland Timbers.

Felipe Mora (35') and Denovan Torres (OG-59') each scored once for the Timbers.


At Alajuela, Costa Rica:


Ezequiel Barco converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute for the game-winning goal as ten-man Atlanta United upended Alajuelense 1-0 on the road in game one as Gabriel Heinze came up a winner in his first competitive game as the Five Stripes' head coach.


At Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic:


The opening match between Haiti's Arcahaie and Mexico's Cruz Azul ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
