Marcus Sasser scored 20 points while Quinton Grimes added 18 as the second-seeded Houston Cougars (28-3) held off the 12th-seeded Oregon State Beavers (20-13) 67-60 to win the Midwest Regional Final of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Monday.


The win put the Cougars in their first Final Four since 1984.

Ethan Thompson scored 22 points as the twelfth-seeded Oregon State Beavers (20-12) upended the eighth-seeded Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (26-5) 65-58.


The Beavers will be playing in their first regional final since 1982 (later vacated by the NCAA due to rules violations) with the chance to advance to their first Final Four since 1963.


At Hinkle Fieldhouse:


Quentin Grimes scored 14 points as the second-seeded Houston Cougars (27-3) used a tough defense and balanced offense to smother eleventh-seeded Syracuse (18-10) 62-46.

Eli Brooks and Chaundee Brown, Jr. each scored 21 points as the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines (22-4) overcame the eighth-seeded LSU Tigers (19-10) 86-78.


Cameron Thomas and Javonte Smart (who grabbed nine rebounds) paced the Bayou Bengals with 30 and 27 points respectively.




At Indiana Farmers Coliseum:


Anthony Polite scored a career-high 22 points as the fourth-seeded Florida State Seminoles (18-6) buffaloed fifth-seeded Colorado (23-9) 71-53.




At Bankers Life Fieldhouse:


Jaden Shackleford scored 21 points and John Petty, Jr. added 20 as the second-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide (26-6) overpowered the tenth-seeded Maryland Terrapins (17-14) 96-77.


Aaron Wiggins topped the Terps with 27 points.

Drew Timme scored 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the unbeaten, top overall-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (28-0) overpowered the eighth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners (16-11) 87-71.


Austin Reeves topped the Sooners with 27 points.




Marcus Zegarowski scored 20 points as the fifth-seeded Creighton Blue Jays (22-8) held off the Ohio U Bobcats (17-8) 72-58.




Isaiah Mobley scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Southern California Trojans (24-7), with five players scoring in double figures, skewered the third-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (21-9) 85-51.




At Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:


Chris Duarte scored 23 points (while dishing out seven assists) while L.J. Figueroa added 21 (to go with his seven rebounds) and Will Richardson 19 (to go with six boards and seven assists) as the #7-seeded Oregon Ducks (21-6) downed the third-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes 22-9.


The Hawkeyes' Luka Garza topped all scorers with 35 points while pulling in nine rebounds.

 The quarterfinal round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Midwest Regional took place in Indiana with four games.

Cameron Krutwig scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (20-4), ranked #8, upended the top-seeded Illinois Fighting Illini 71-58.


Kofi Cockburn topped the Illini with 21 points while grabbing nine boards.




Buddy Boeheim scored 25 points as 11th-seeded Syracuse (18-9) knocked off third-seeded West Virginia (19-10) 75-72.


Sean McNeil paced the Mountaineers with 23 points.



At Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indianapolis: 


Ethan Thompson scored 26 points, converting 15 of 16 free throws along the way, as the 12th-seeded Oregon State Beavers (19-12), who made 30 of 33 from the charity stripe, downed the fourth-seeded Oklahoma State Cowboys (21-9) 80-70.

The quarterfinal round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's South Regional took place in Indiana on Sunday with four games. 


At Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:


Jeremiah Robinson-Earl scored 18 points as the fifth-seeded Villanova Wildcats (18-6), aided by 15 successful three-point shots, dominated 13th-seeded North Texas (18-10) 84-61. 


Javion Hamlet topped the Mean Green with 25 points.


At Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:


Matthew Mayer came off the bench to score 17 points while starters Davion Mitchell and Jared Butler added 16 apiece as the top-seeded Baylor Bears (24-2) held off the ninth-seeded Wisconsin Badgers (18-13) 76-63.




Justin Smith scored 20 points as the third-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks (24-6) held off former Southwest Conference rivals #6-seeded Texas Tech (18-11) 68-66.


Terrence Shannon, Jr. topped the Red Raiders with 20 points.




At The Indiana Farmers Coliseum, Indianapolis:


Kevin Obanor scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the fifteenth-seeded Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (18-10) knocked off the seventh-seeded Florida Gators (15-10) 81-78.


Max Abmas added 26 points and seven assists to the Golden Eagles' coffers.


This marks the first time since 1974 that ORU won twice in the same year's tournament and they became only the second fifteenth-seeded team to reach the Sweet Sixteen.







NCAA East: Wolverines, Bayou Bengals, Buffs, Noles, Bruins, Terps, Tide Advance; Wildcats Stun Horns

 The opening round of the NCAA's Men's Basketball Tournament's East Regional took place on Saturday with eight games in Indiana.


At Mackey Arena, West Lafayette:


Mike Smith scored 18 points as the top-seeded Michigan Wolverines (21-4) downed 16th-seeded Texas Southern (17-9) 82-66.


Michael Weathers topped the Tigers with 24 points.


Eric Ayala scored 23 points as the tenth-seeded Maryland Terrapins (17-13) defeated the seventh-seeded Connecticut Huskies (15-8) 63-54.




At Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Bloomington:


Cameron Thomas scored 27 points to help carry the eighth-seeded LSU Tigers (19-9) to a 76-61 victory over St. Bonaventure (16-5).




At Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:


Jabari Walker scored 24 points off the bench as the fifth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes (23-8) stampeded the 12th-seeded Georgetown Hoyas (13-13) 96-73.


Qudus Wahab topped the Hoyas with 20 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.


Herbert Jones scored 20 points to help lead the second-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide (25-6) to a 68-55 victory over 15th-seeded Iona.


Isaiah Ross topped the Gaels with 19 points.


Johnny Juzang scored 27 points as the eleventh-seeded UCLA Bruins (19-9) downed sixth-seeded BYU (20-7) 73-62.


Alex Barcello topped the Cougars with 20 points.




At Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis:


RaiQuan Gray scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the fourth-seeded Florida State Seminoles (17-6) defeated the North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans (21-9) 64-54.




At Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis:


Joe Pleasant (who grabbed eight rebounds) and Coryon Mason each scored 11 points as the 14th-seeded Abilene Christian Wildcats (24-4) shocked the third-seeded Texas Longhorns (19-8) 53-52.
