Andre-Pierre Gignac converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute on Sunday to provided the winning goal as Tigres upended Palmeiras 1-0 in a semifinal match in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Mexican club thus became the first North American entry to reach the Championship Game of this tournament, which will take place this coming Thursday against the winner of Monday's Bayern Munich-Al-Ahly semifinal.
Earlier on Sunday at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, also in Al Rayyan, Mohammed Muntari scored the game winner at 66 minutes as Al-Duhail from the host nation defeated South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai 3-1 in the fifth-place game.
