 Major League Soccer opened its' 2022 regular season on Saturday with nine games.


At Chester, Pennsylvania:


Cory Burke's equalizer in the 35th minute lifted the Philadelphia Union to a 1-1 home draw with Minnesota United.


Robin Lod scored for the Loons in the 23rd minute.


At Columbus, Ohio:


Miguel Berry (8'), Derrick Etienne, Jr. (25'), Luis Diaz (84'), and Lucas Zelarayan (86') each scored once as the Columbus Crew demolished the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 4-0.


At Los Angeles:


Carlos Vela produced a hat trick (PK-29', 35', 50') as the Los Angeles Football Club dominated the visiting Colorado Rapids 3-0.


At Frisco, Texas:


Jonathan Osorio's equalizer in the 45th minute lifted Toronto FC to a 1-1 road draw with FC Dallas.


Jader Obrian notched a tally for the Hoops at nine minutes.


At Austin, Texas:


Cecilio Dominguez scored twice (2', 61') as Austin FC destroyed visiting FC Cincinnati 5-0.


At Washington:


Michael Estrada (PK-37', 45'+6) as DC United ruined the debut of Charlotte FC, dominating the visitors from The Tar Heel State 3-0.

Daniel Podence scored the game winner in the 66th minute of Sunday as Wolverhampton Wanderers held off visiting Leicester City 2-1 in English Premier League action.

Zona Hold Off Game Ducks In Tucson

At Tucson, Arizona: 


Bennedict Mathurin scored 24 points while Kerr Kriisa hit the decisive three-point shot in the waning seconds as the Arizona Wildcats (#3 AP, #4 Coaches; 24-2 overall, 14-1 in Pac-12 play) held off the gallant Oregon Ducks (17-10, 10-6) 84-81 at home.


Will Richardson and Quincy Guerrier paced the Ducks with 22 and 21 points respectively.

Sun Devils Scorch Visiting Beavers

 At Tempe, Arizona:


Marreon Jackson came off the bench on Saturday to score a team-leading 15 points to help carry the Arizona State Sun Devils (10-15 overall, 6-9 in Pac-12 play) to a convincing 73-53 home victory over the shorthanded Oregon State Beavers (3-22, 1-14), who have now dropped 12 straight games.

Pilots Bomb Visiting Toreros

At Portland, Oregon:


Chris Austin matched his career high with 26 points on Thursday  while Moses Wood and Kristian Sjolund each added 19 (while pulling in 10 and 5 rebounds respectively) as the Portland Pilots (15-12 overall, 5-6 in WCC play) demolished the visiting San Diego Toreros (14-13, 7-7) 92-60. 

Vikings Edge Visiting Lumberjacks

 At Portland, Oregon:


Damion Squire scored 19 points to lead the Portland State Vikings (9-15) past the visiting Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (9-17, 5-10) 68-67 in a tight one on Thursday.


Jalen Cone paced the Jacks with 19 points.

Zona Holds Off Pesky Beavers In Tucson

Azuolas Tubelis scored 22 points and Bennedict Mathurim added 20 as the Arizona Wildcats (#3 AP, #4 Coaches; 23-2 overall, 13-1 in Pac-12 play) held off the visiting Oregon State Beavers (3-21, 1-13) 83-69 on Thursday handing the guests their 11th straight defeat.

Ducks' NCAA Chances Take Massive Hit After Being Scorched By Sun Devils

Jalen Graham scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds on Thursday night as the Arizona State Sun Devils (9-15 overall, 5-9 in Pac-12 play) ran roughshod over the visiting Oregon Ducks (17-9, 10-5) 81-57, delivering a crippling blow to the guests' chances of securing an NCAA Tournament at-large invitation.

RAMS OVERCOME BENGALS FOR FIRST SUPER BOWL TITLE SINCE 1999; COOPER KUPP NAMED GAME MVP

 At SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California:


Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for three touchdowns (two to game Most Valuable Player Cooper and one to Odell Beckham, Jr.) on Sunday while defensive Aaron Donald came up with a key fourth-down stop in the final seconds as the Los Angeles Rams won their first Super Bowl championship in 22 years (and their second overall) by coming back from behind to overcome the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20.


This was the Rams' second Super Bowl crown, the other coming after the 1999 season when they were based in St. Louis.


The Bengals how now dropped three Super Bowl games---all by single-possession margins while still looking to win their first Vince Lombardi Trophy; quarterback Joe Burrow threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins (who also caught a TD pass courtesy of running back Joe Mixon).


Los Angeles head coach Sean McVea, at age 36, became the youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl.


The Rams' triumph was the first for a Los Angeles club since the then-Los Angeles Raiders ambushed the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII in Tampa, 38 years ago.
