Blazers Knock Off Hawks

 At Moda Center at the Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon:


Damian Lillard scored 42 points while Anfernee Simons (who added 21 points) hit a tie breaking three pointer with 34 seconds remaining as the Portland Trail Blazers (24-26) defeated the Atlanta Hawks (25-26) 129-125 on Monday.


Jemari Grant added 22 points to the Blazers' coffers.


Dejounte Murray led the Hawks with 40 points while Bogdan Bogdanovich came off the bench to add 23 points.

It's Eagles and Chiefs In Super Bowl LVII

 Both conference championship games took place on Sunday.

At Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia:


Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 15 of 25 passes for 121 yards while running for a touchdown as the Philadelphia Eagles smothered the San Francisco 49ers 31-7 and will play in their fourth Super Bowl.


Running back Miles Sanders ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Eagles.


AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE:


At GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri:


Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, badly sprained right ankle and all, completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs avenged last year's AFC Championship Game with a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.  The Chiefs will play in their fifth Super Bowl.

Bengals, 49ers Advance To Conference Title Games

 The two former teams that played in last years conference title games are back in.

At Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, New York:


Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for two touchdowns as the Cincinnati Bengals smothered the Buffalo Bills by a 27-10 score.


NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE:


At Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, California:


Quarterback Brock Purdy found tight end George Kittle that parked the San Francisco 49ers lone touchdowns----a two-yard ran by Christian McCaffery as the Niners defeated the Dallas Cowboys 19-12.

Stanford Knock Off Oregon

 At Maple Pavilion, Stanford, Oregon:


Spencer Jones scored 16 points as the Stanford Cardinal (7-12 overall, 2-7 in Pac 12 play) knocked off the Oregon Ducks (11-9, 5-4) 71-64 on Saturday.


Jermaine Couisnard led the Ducks with 18 points.

Road Win For Pilots

 At Reed Gym, Pocatello, Idaho:


Cameron Parker scored 17 points to help lead the Portland State Vikings (9-11 overall, 3-4 in Big Sky play) past the Idaho State Bengals (7-13, 4-3).

NFL Playoffs

The National Football League playoffs opened its divisional round on Saturday.


AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE:


At GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri:


Even with the injuries suffered during the divisional playoff, quarterback Patrick Mahones still managed to throw for 195 yards and two touchdowns as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-20.

At Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia:


The Philadelphia Eagles smothered the New York Giants 38-7 as quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score.

Eetu Vertainen scored all three goals (16', 36', 46') in Linfield's 3-0 white washing of Ballymena United in Northern Irish Premiership action.

Martin Braithwaite scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute as Espanyol defeated visiting Real Betis 1-0 in Saturday action in the Spanish Primera Division.

Pedro Porro scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time as Sporting CP defeated visiting Vizela 2-1.

Bayern To And RB Leipzig Draw

 At Red Bull Arena, Leipzig, Germany:


The Friday German Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig and visiting Bayern Munich resulted in a 1-1 draw.  Eric Choupo-Moting scored for Bayern in the 37th minute while Marcel Halstenberg scored for Leipzig in minute #54.

Joel Embiid scored 32 points as the Philadelphia 76ers (29-16) defeated the Portland Trail Blazers (21-24) 105-96.  


Damian Lilliard scored 25 points to lead the Blazers while Jemari Grant added 24 points.

Kraken Knock Off Devils

 At Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle:


Ryan Donato scored twice and assisted once while Andre Burakovsky scored 70 seconds into overtime as the Seattle Kraken upended the New Jersey Devils 4-3 on Thursday.

NFL Playoffs: 49ers, Jaguars, Bills, Giants, Bengals, Cowboys Advance To Divisional Round

 The opening round of the National Football League playoffs took place on with two games on Saturday, three game games on Sunday and on game on Monday.

Brock Purdy threw for three touchdowns and the San Francisco 49ers throttled the Seattle Seahawks 41-23.

At US Bank Stadium, Minneapolis:


Quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns while running for 78 yards as the New York Giants won a playoff game for the first time since winning Super Bowl XCVI 31-24.


Monday:


At Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida:


Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-14.

At TIAA Bank Field, Jacksonville, Florida:


After throwing four interceptions in the first four passes, Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for four touchdowns as the Jacksonville Jaguars came back from down 27 points to upend the Los Angeles Chargers 31-27.

At Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, New York:


The Buffalo Bills outdistanced the Miami Dolphins 34-24 as quarterback Josh Allen threw for a pair of touchdowns.


At Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio:


Sam Hubbard ran back Tyler Huntley's fumble back 98 yards for a touchdown as the Cincinnati Bengals held off the Baltimore Ravens 24-17.

Blazers Fall Again

 At Moda Center at the Rose Garden, Portland, Portland, Oregon:


Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points while Ricky Rubio played his first game in over a year and scored 26 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers (27-16) defeated the sliding Portland Trail Blazers(19-22)  119-113.


The Blazers fell despite 50 points by Damian Lilliard and 22 points by Jarrett Allen.


The Cavaliers were helped by Darius Garland who scored 22 points.

Robbie McDaid scored the games's lone goal in the 36th minute as Linfield defeated homestanding Dungannon Swifts 1-0 in Tuesday Northern Irish Premiership action.

Dawson Mercer scored his first NHL two goal game on Tuesday as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3.

Magic Defeated Blazers

 At Moda Center as the Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon:


Franz Wagner scored 29 points while pulling in Wendell Carder, Jr. added 20 points while pulling in 10 rebounds on Tuesday as the Orlando Magic defeated the visiting Portland Trail Blazers 109-106.


Damian Lilliard led the Blazers with 30 points while Jusuf Nurkic added 22 points while pulling in 10 points.

College Football Playoff Title Game: Dawgs Devour Frogs For Repeat Title

 At SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California:


Quarterback Stetson Bennett threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more on Monday as the #1-seeded Georgia Bulldogs (15-0) buried the #3 Texas Christian Horned Frogs 65-7 in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.


It was the most lopsided college football game ever played.


The Bulldogs were the first repeat championship championship team since Alabama of 2011 and 2012.

Niners Close Out Regular Season Against Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers won their last ten games of the regular season by blasting the Arizona Cardinals 38-13 as quarterback Brock Purdy's fifth victory (he completed 15 of 20 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns) and locked up the National Football Conference's #2 seed.
